Va. woman charged with murder after allegedly dousing another woman with gasoline, setting her on fire

WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (TCN) — A 28-year-old woman is in custody on suspicion of covering another woman with gasoline and setting her on fire.

On Nov. 17, the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Ramsey Mountain Road in Max Meadows in reference to a woman, later identified as Tiffany Dunford, who had allegedly been set on fire. Dunford sustained severe burns over most of her body and was transported to a specialized medical facility via helicopter.

Dunford and other witnesses identified Savannah Adams as the primary suspect. According to WDBJ-TV, Dunford was sitting on an outdoor couch at a home when Adams allegedly drove up, covered her in gasoline, and set her ablaze. Following the incident, Adams reportedly fled in a Dodge Neon.

Family members said Dunford and Adams knew each other.

Adams initially faced charges of attempted second-degree murder and felonious assault. However, on Nov. 18, the sheriff’s office announced the victim succumbed to her injuries, and Adams’ charges were upgraded to first-degree murder. She remains held in the Wythe County Jail without bond.
