Wisconsin man who lured ex for a walk and killed her is sentenced

JANESVILLE, Wis. (TCN) — A man who fatally shot his ex-girlfriend and mother of his child before leaving her body on a trail learned his fate this week.

The Rock County District Attorney’s Office announced Feb. 12 that Logan Barclay received a life sentence with parole eligibility in 2075 when he is 73 years old. Barclay pleaded guilty in November 2024 to first-degree intentional homicide.

On April 16, 2024, Barclay reportedly “lured” his ex-girlfriend, identified by WTVO-TV as Kiersten Hansen, to a secluded dirt trail, where he shot her in the abdomen and “left her for dead.” Prosecutors said he also took her cellphone.

According to the Janesville Police Department, a passerby found Hansen’s body in the woods and called law enforcement. Officers responded, and the medical examiner pronounced her deceased at the scene.

District Attorney Jason Sanders argued that Barclay should not be eligible for parole because his actions were “calculated.” During an interview with detectives, Barclay reportedly demonstrated his ability to “lie convincingly.” Sanders compared Barclay to a “dungeon master” from the game “Dungeons and Dragons.” Barclay reportedly told investigators he “set up everything, the entire game, and nobody else knew they were playing.”

According to the district attorney’s office, Barclay’s lawyer argued that he should be eligible for parole “someday.” Barclay, who was 22 at the time of the shooting, has no criminal record, nor was he diagnosed with any treatment needs prior to his ex’s killing.

Hansen’s mother made a statement in court before sentencing, telling the defendant he is a “pathological liar” and should “rot in hell.” However, the district attorney’s office said she also “empathized with and appreciated Barclay’s parents.”

In a statement, Sanders said, “Some crimes are so heinous that the State must not make any concessions. It is our job to fight for the victim, their family, and the community as a whole.”
