4iG Group Partners with Ericsson on Advanced 5G Network in North Macedonia

The Macedonian subsidiary of the 4iG Group, One Macedonia, and Ericsson signed a supplier and service agreement at the 2026 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona for the rollout of North Macedonia’s greenfield 5G Standalone (SA) mobile network in North Macedonia, 4iG announced on Wednesday.

They announced that the project is linked to the frequency license won in January 2026. The first urban 5G service will be available by spring 2027, with nationwide coverage expected by 2033.

Ericsson is participating as an exclusive technology partner in the development, that is part of 4iG’s €100 million investment strategy in North Macedonia.

More than 500 5G base stations will be built over four years, 4iG announced.

The agreement, signed in Barcelona for the period between 2026 and 2029, is an important milestone following the preliminary letter of intent signed in September 2025, as it officially marks the start of full-scale network deployment in North Macedonia. The agreement covers the supply of radio access network (RAN) and core network equipment, the provision of related software solutions, as well as full implementation and long-term technical support. Following the acquisition of frequencies in January, the agreement accelerates the implementation of the 4iG Group’s investment program in North Macedonia.

The One Macedonia network will be one of the most modern 5G infrastructures in the region. As a greenfield investment, the system can be built without the limitations of previous technologies, enabling high-speed data connections, ultra-low latency, high network stability, and outstanding energy efficiency. The architecture provides a future-proof digital platform not only for residential users, but also for corporate and public sector players.

The network will be built according to the schedule specified in the frequency license awarded on January 23, 2026: 5G service will be available in at least one city by March 2027, on major transport routes by March 2029, in all cities by March 2031, and nationwide by 2033.

The agreement includes an equipment supply contract with Ericsson AB and a service contract with Ericsson Macedonia, combining global technology expertise with local implementation capabilities. The move reinforces the 4iG Group’s commitment to long-term investments and the digital modernization of the Western Balkans region, said the Budapest-based company.

The 4iG Group is the largest technology, infocommunications, digital infrastructure, and space and defense industry capital market holding company in Hungary, whose shares are traded on the Budapest Stock Exchange.

4iG takes an integrated approach to building its presence in the areas of high-capacity networks, data center and international data connection infrastructures, technology systems, and industrial and defense solutions, serving residential, business, government, and international customers. The strategic goal of the group is to contribute to the digital, technological and industrial development of Hungary and the region through long-term investments, innovation and international partnerships.

One Macedonia is North Macedonia’s youngest mobile network operator and a member of the Budapest-based 4iG Group. The company is building a greenfield 5G SA network that meets the highest European security and performance requirements. Its goal is to develop North Macedonia’s digital infrastructure and serve residential, business and government customers with state-of-the-art connectivity solutions. One Macedonia operates in the Western Balkans region, relying on the professional and financial background of the 4iG Group.
