EU-AU Summit in Luanda, Angola
The stability of Africa is not only in the fundamental interest of the continent’s inhabitants, but also of Europe, stated President Tamás Sulyok in Angola.
In his speech at the European Union-African Union (EU-AU) Summit, Tamás Sulyok said that conflict prevention is more effective than crisis management. He said that it is important for Europe to support efforts to resolve armed conflicts in Africa, to establish and maintain peace, and to improve the security situation.
He emphasized that special attention must be paid to addressing the root causes of instability, illegal migration, and terrorism, as well as to supporting young people and encouraging job creation.
The President of the Republic drew attention to the fact that Hungary believes that it is necessary to provide support so that everyone can thrive in their homeland, and to this end, the Hungarian government operates a number of programs in Africa.
He emphasized that Hungary places particular emphasis on strengthening the role of young people, primarily through education, skills development, and the promotion of entrepreneurship.
The head of state cited the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship program launched in 2015 as an example, thanks to which more than 6,500 African students have been able to pursue higher education in Hungary over the past decade.
Speaking about cooperation between the European Union and the African Union, he said that Hungary welcomes any initiative that promotes the strengthening of relations between the EU and its African partners.
He noted that the EU is currently Africa’s largest economic and trading partner, one of its largest investors and its most significant donor.

After 15 years, Tamás Sulyok once again represented Hungary at the EU-AU Summit, which is being held for the seventh time, this time in Angola, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the African Union.
