Aid from Hungary Does Not Require “Adoption of Woke Ideology” in Return

Hungary’s position is to develop a partnership with Africa based on mutual respect and mutual interests, in order to help alleviate the suffering of people in crisis zones and encourage them to plan and create their future in their own countries, rather than migrating to other places, such as Europe, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, responsible for programs to help persecuted Christians, said in Brussels on Monday.

Arriving at a meeting of EU development ministers, Tristan Azbej pointed out that Hungary’s aid policy approach is based on local partnerships, such as with Christian faith-based organizations, and rejects migration as a solution to alleviate humanitarian crises.

It also rejects a Western aid policy approach, often described as liberal, that arrogantly and condescendingly demands the adoption of Woke ideology in exchange for aid.

We stand for the principle of local assistance and humane prevention of migration,” he said.

He also underlined that Hungary, despite its strength and size, is at the forefront in building partnerships, especially in the field of development and humanitarian cooperation in the Sahel. Here, through the Hungary Helps program, they have launched over 30 programs.

The Hungarian government’s engagement in Chad is of particular importance, he said, adding that the Hungarian Humanitarian and Development Center in N’Djamena has implemented successful programs and is still active in areas such as post-disaster humanitarian assistance and agricultural development.

On Ukraine, he said that Hungary had launched and continued the largest humanitarian operation in its history in recent years to help the war-stricken people of Ukraine. “However, the Hungarian position is that Brussels regularly gives the wrong, harmful and dangerous responses to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. The government believes that the key to providing real help to the suffering people would be an early ceasefire and the start of peace negotiations. On the contrary, Brussels’ policy is encouraging armament, escalation of the war and prolongation of the conflict, he pointed out.
