The co-chair of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party visited Budapest again. Péter Szijjártó stated on his Facebook page that he met a true patriot, Alice Weidel. The politicians posed for a photograph together at the Groupama Arena.
In his post, Péter Szijjártó pointed out that Alice Weidel leads Germany’s most popular party today, yet she is attacked by many.
She is attacked and threatened relentlessly, but she is resilient enough that these attacks only make her stronger!”
said Péter Szijjártó.
Alice Weidel had a special surprise prepared for Hungarians everywhere with her latest visit to Budapest. She recited Hungary’s 1848 revolutionary poem, National Song (Nemzeti Dal) in Hungarian at Mandiner’s conservative gathering. The Prime Minister’s Political Director, Balázs Orbán praised the politician for this symbolic gesture, writing:
“Goosebumps. Sándor Petőfi’s poem National Song is an emblematic work of the 1848 Revolution and War of Independence, calling for action, resistance against oppression, and the achievement of national independence.
In the spirit of “now is the time, now or never,” it contrasts a captive past with the promise of a free future, compelling the Hungarian nation to make a clear and decisive choice.
Thank you, Alice, for honoring our nation in our own language.”
At the event the politician called Hungary the land of freedom and said that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán brings hope for freedom and security to everyone in Europe.
She then took a critical tone toward the German government, admitting that as a German citizen, she was ashamed of Chancellor Friedrich Merz and the government for representing the voice of war rather than peace toward the Hungarian government. She emphasized that she felt it was her duty to show Hungarians that there are good people in Germany who want peace and wish to maintain good relations with Hungary.
“Therefore, I wish your country and Viktor Orbán every success in the upcoming elections,” she stated.
