As the summer season winds down, fewer tourists and locals are expected to travel on Lake Balaton by boat. Reflecting this seasonal shift, Balaton Shipping Company (BAHART) has updated its schedule to match autumn demand.
From September 8 to October 26, in accordance with the autumn schedule, boat services on Lake Balaton will run less frequently, BAHART announced on its website.
On the two main routes, Fonyód-Badacsony and Siófok-Tihany-Balatonfüred, passenger ship services will run daily until September 28, then only on Saturdays and Sundays with the exception of the long weekend between October 23 and 26.
Scheduled boats will also run on weekends and the long weekend from the ports of
- Balatonföldvár,
- Balatonlelle,
- Balatonboglár,
- Balatonmáriafürdő,
- Balatongyörök,
- Szigliget,
- and Révfülöp.
Ferries will continue to run every 30 minutes, from Szántód between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. and from Tihany between 7:15 a.m. and 9:15 p.m.
It is worth taking a boat trip even after the summer, as Lake Balaton still offers a special atmosphere with its colorful shores and tranquility instead of the summer crowds.
Further information about the timetable and ticket prices is available on the BAHART website.
Fact
Last year, over 2.3 million passengers traveled on BAHART’s routes, 178,000 more than the previous year’s record-breaking traffic. The Fonyód-Badacsony route saw the highest number of passengers, 250,000, while the Balatonboglár-Révfülöp route saw the largest increase of almost 40 percent.
Last season started with the inauguration of four new vessels. The government’s decision to increase the capital with HUF 6 billion (EUR 15 million) for the company enabled an investment of over HUF 5 billion (EUR 12.5 million), resulting in two new ferries and two new catamarans entering service at the end of March last year. Two refurbished cruise ships were also inaugurated in May 2024.
