Best Beaches on Lake Balaton Revealed

For the 22nd time, the Balaton Association has conducted its “Blue Wave Flag” beach rating. With a record participation of 47 beaches and an impressive 25 five-star title, Lake Balaton is setting new standards. The Lido Beach in Vonyarcvashegy emerged as the clear winner, receiving the title of “Best Beach on Lake Balaton 2025.”

The renowned rating program aims to encourage the seaside resorts on Lake Balaton to make continuous improvements and to offer vacationers a reliable guide to service quality, reports the regional news portal hirbalaton.hu.

The criteria range from the cleanliness of the shore area and green spaces to the availability of shade and sanitary facilities, as well as family-friendly and barrier-free services and gastronomic offerings.

This year, digital accessibility of beaches was added to the scoring sheet. In addition to the up-to-date content of their websites, digital-based beach services, other available online platforms, social media activity, and marketing campaigns were also evaluated.

Numerous special prizes recognized outstanding achievements in specific areas:

The Smart Destination – Smart Beach special prize went to Fövenyfürdő Beach in Balatonfűzfő.

The Hungarian Tourism Agency’s special Family-Friendly Beach award went to Esterházy Beach and Water Park in Balatonfüred.

Traditionally, the county governments of the three Balaton counties also presented their own awards:

Somogy County honored Keleti Beach in Balatonföldvár.
Községi Beach in Csopak received the award from Veszprém County.
Zala County honored Községi Beach in Balatongyörök.

The Balaton Circle awarded the special prize Balaton Gastro Strand 2025 to Központi Beach in Balatonfenyves. This prize recognizes restaurants that serve as role models with year-round operation, high-quality offerings, the integration of local products, and fresh, innovative menus, thereby significantly increasing the attractiveness of the beach.

An award was also presented for the joy of active vacationers: Községi Strand in Balatonberény received the special Active Beach award from the Balaton Tourism Association for its diverse range of sports and leisure activities.

The Balaton Uplands National Park awarded three environmental prizes:

The Green Leaf Prize for outstanding green space maintenance, preservation of biodiversity, and adaptation to climate change went to Sándortelepi Panoráma Beach in Fonyód.
The Green Frog Award for excellent environmental education and the communication of ecological knowledge went to the Napfény Camping Beach in Révfülöp.
The Berény Naturista Beach in Balatonberény was honored with the Green Nest Award for the protection of habitats, reed beds, and old trees.

The “Blue Wave Flag” beaches are awarded stars (up to five) depending on their quality.
