Budapest–Belgrade Railway Enters Final Stretch as System Testing Begins

Dark operation of signaling systems has begun along the entire length of the Soroksár-Kelebia section of the Budapest-Belgrade railway line, announced the CEO of the MÁV Group in a video statement posted on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

On the Hungarian section, “the infrastructure is already complete: the switches, buildings, platforms, and overhead lines are already in place, and we are now conducting dark operation tests,” said Zsolt Hegyi.

This means that we are now testing with real railway vehicles to see if everything has been implemented as originally planned,”

he explained.

In the video, Zsolt Hegyi presented the control center built in Kiskunhalas as part of the completed infrastructure, where, as he put it, three excellent colleagues control train traffic from Budapest to the Kelebia border. “From here, they manage and control the switches and signals, monitor the status of the barriers, see what is happening at the stations on camera, and operate the central passenger information system.”

If everything is running smoothly and the trains are running on schedule, fortunately, the colleagues do not have many tasks to perform, as the equipment automatically directs the trains between Budapest and Kelebia,”

he explained, adding that “a 21st-century railway line is controlled from such a modern center, but of course the machines cannot do without the knowledge of the railway colleagues who are already here and control the traffic on the railway line 24 hours a day.”

Fact

Minister of Construction and Transport János Lázár announced at a recent press conference that the Hungarian section of the Budapest–Belgrade railway line will open to freight traffic on February 27. He added that the line is expected to operate at full capacity and provide significant time savings for commuters in the Budapest region.
