Budapest Design Week 2025, with the motto “Fluid Boundaries,” will focus on the blurring of boundaries in the design industry and await interested visitors between October 8 and 19, in ten cities with over 175 events, announced the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency (HFDA).
The aim of the 22-year-old event series is to present the world of design, fine arts, and applied arts in depth to both professionals and the general public. Visitors can learn how the objects, interiors, and spaces that surround us are created through free programs.
Nearly 130 events will take place in the capital and 50 in the countryside, including exhibitions, design tours, workshops, roundtable discussions, as well as family and gastronomic programs.
The program includes events such as DesignPécs, now in its 11th year, and Sopron Design Week, celebrating its 10th anniversary. Joining them for the first time this year is Debrecen, with colorful events designed to deepen understanding of the creative industry. In addition to these, the following six cities will also enrich the program with their own events:
- Győr
- Kecskemét
- Szentendre
- Balatonfüred
- Tata
- Veszprém.
The topic of “Fluid Boundaries” highlights the interoperability between materials, technologies, and roles. Today, design means complex thinking, innovation, and creating experiences, emphasized HFDA. The programs include hybrid installations, interactive presentations, and professional meetings. According to Zsófia Jakab, CEO of HFDA,
the goal of the Budapest Design Week is to showcase the work of Hungarian designers and create a platform for new collaborations.
Highlights include 360 Design Budapest, Art Market Budapest, the Határtalan Design exhibition, and the EDIDA awards ceremony. Design education will also be in the spotlight, with several universities and vocational training institutions presenting their students’ work.
Visitors can find their way around with the help of a printed program booklet and an interactive online platform. The venues are marked with BDW flags, and most events are free, while some require advance registration or a ticket. The Local+ section brings together programs from outside Budapest.
