Budapest to Host Landmark Textile Art Exhibition

From October 28, outstanding pieces of Hungarian textile art will be on display at the Vigadó Concert Hall in Budapest at an exhibition entitled Tűréshatár (Limit of Tolerance), where visitors can view 130 exceptional works.

After Szombathely (western Hungary), the most prominent Hungarian works from the 8th International Triennial of Textile Arts will now be on display in Budapest for the first time. The exhibition will also serve as a precursor to the triennial, which will be renewed in 2027, the organizers announced.

One of the special features of the exhibition is that it will be the last time that the most outstanding pieces from the five main categories of the International Triennial of Textile Arts will be on display together: wall textiles, spatial textiles, textile design works, miniature textiles, and ribbons and flags.

As the next triennial will be organized with a new structure, this exhibition serves as both a retrospective overview and a celebration of opening a new chapter.

The current exhibition will be open until December 7.

The Cultural Foundation for Textile Arts organizes one of the oldest contemporary textile art exhibitions in the Central European region every three years. The event has been hosted by the Szombathely Gallery for 50 years. Entries for the exhibition in Szombathely in 2024 came from 29 countries on five continents. A total of 505 artists submitted entries, of which the jury selected 262 works by 214 artists.

The Budapest exhibition will feature Éva Sipos’s work entitled Tábla (Board), which combines wool, metal thread, linen, and French tapestry materials and won the Ministry of Culture and Innovation Award. Another special exhibit is Edit Szűcs’s clothing sculptures. She received the F. Dózsa Katalin Award in recognition of her creative and educational work, which was presented for the first time last year in Szombathely.

The Textile Artist of the Year 2025 award, that was given to Anna Regős last year, will also be presented at the opening on October 28. The artist’s wall textile work entitled Védőháló (Safety Net), consisting of 258 folded and sewn cotton masks, will also be on display at the exhibition.
