Budapest–Vienna Advent Train Returns for the Holiday Season

Holiday travelers can once again reach Europe’s most enchanting Christmas markets from Budapest. From this Saturday, the Advent EuroCity between Budapest and Vienna will return.

The magical atmosphere of the Christmas markets in Vienna offers a special experience during the Advent season. The Austrian capital can be reached comfortably and at affordable ticket prices in just over two and a half hours from Budapest by train, with railjets and MÁV-group EuroCity trains departing hourly, Turizmus.com reports.

On Saturdays during Advent, the Advent EuroCity will once again run between Budapest and Vienna, with Passenger Catering Services (Utasellátó) providing festive meals in the dining car.

Due to increased passenger traffic, the Advent EuroCity will run again on Saturdays, November 29, December 6, 13, and 20, between Budapest and Vienna. The train departs from Keleti Railway Station at 8:01 a.m. and returns from Vienna Central Station at 6:04 p.m. Tickets are available at normal prices, and it is recommended to purchase them as soon as possible to take advantage of the favorable prices.

In addition to the Vienna Advent service, the Railjet trains run to Munich, Salzburg, and Linz, the Hungária EuroCity to Prague and Bratislava, and the Hernád InterCity to the Košice fair.

It is worth choosing START Europa tickets. They can be purchased online, and prices start at €13.

Railjet trains have a bistro section, while EuroCity trains offer a special festive menu in their dining cars.

This year, the soups will be prepared with festive seasoning, and fish soup , as well as plum soup with cloves and whipped cream will also be available, for instance. The menu includes Christmas cold cuts, Belgian waffles, French onion soup with cheese toast, but classics such as fish soup and stuffed cabbage are also available during Advent.

The well-known Christmas burger will also be available again this Advent. For dessert, they offer festive cream cups, served in Gerbeaud cake (zserbó) or chestnut tiramisu flavors, but a classic poppy seed or walnut beigli (Hungarian nut roll) is also a perfect choice. The winter drink selection includes mulled wine and hot rum tea.
