Budapest Zoo to Become a New Educational Hub of the Capital

In the first six months of the year, 9,303 children and adults participated in various educational programs at the Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden, where these activities will continue during the summer, the institution announced.

In the first six months of this year, 8,580 people joined the classroom and thematic sessions of Budapest Zoo. The study groups can participate in about forty different topics during each program, tailored to the National Core Curriculum and age-specific characteristics.

Last year, more than 14,000 children attended similar events, and data shows that the same number of participants can be expected this year, they wrote.

Also through the district child welfare centers, 309 socially disadvantaged children have been able to participate in adventure day programs free of charge.

These days are accompanied by zoo educators, and from craft activities to meetings with animal caretakers, every element of these programs is based on a nature-friendly experience, the announcement highlighted.

In the first semester of 2025, 256 students participated in methodological trainings implemented in cooperation with the ELTE Teacher Training School and the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology, while in cooperation with the University of Veterinary Medicine, students of the institution also come to the Budapest Zoo as part of their class named Diseases of Zoo Animals.

The zoo works in cooperation with the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences, but students from other domestic and foreign universities – from the United States to the United Arab Emirates – also carry out their professional internships or doctoral research here.

In addition to all this, informal learning experienced during daily visits is also an integral part of the zoo’s educational activities.
