Bus Fleet Expanded by 500 Brand-New Vehicles

The renewal of the MÁV Group’s bus fleet is entering its next phase: by spring 2026, another 120 modern buses will be put into service, followed by a further 180 by the end of the year. According to the CEO, the development of the buses is progressing well, and the focus will now shift to rejuvenating the motor trains.

Between 2025 and 2027, 1,000 brand-new Hungarian buses will be delivered to the MÁV Group, CEO Zsolt Hegyi wrote on Facebook. The last 300 buses from this package will enter service in 2027.

He added that the fleet renewal is taking place nationwide:

New buses will be deployed in several counties, significantly improving the quality of local and intercity transport.

“The development of a public transport system that is competitive with private transport in terms of price and quality is progressing rapidly at VOLÁN (part of MÁV Group), so that by the summer of 2026, all our buses will be air-conditioned and we will be reaching more and more places with barrier-free connections,” said the CEO.

“Nothing stands in the way of the development of our bus fleet until the end of 2027,” he added. For this reason, the focus of vehicle renewal is now shifting to railways, with preparations underway for the acquisition of over 100 motor trains.

According to a statement from the MÁV Group, the company began taking delivery of another 120 buses in January. This is the next step in the fleet renewal program, the launch of which was announced exactly one year ago by János Lázár, Minister of Construction and Transport.

In the first part of the program, that involves the purchase of 1,000 brand-new vehicles, MÁV Személyszállítási Zrt. and Kravtex Kft. signed a contract for the delivery of 869 new buses at the beginning of September last year. Of these, 400 vehicles were already delivered and put into service in 2025.

With the buses currently being put into service in the second phase – the Credobus Econell Next manufactured by the Kravtex-Kühne Group – the number of new vehicles that have joined the VOLÁN fleet within a year has already exceeded the 500 mark.
