Over 1,500 BYD vehicles have so far been purchased by companies applying for subsidies under the e-car program. The third most sought-after vehicle Hyundai also recently crossed the 5,000 sales threshold, the Ministry of Energy said in a recent Facebook post.
In the brand competition, BYD has been the leader from the start, followed by Tesla in second place with over 1,100 cars. Among the manufacturers, Volvo, Kia, Volkswagen and Cenntro are the other manufacturers to have reached over 250 units.
The American challenger can find some consolation in the model comparison, where the Tesla Model Y is the clear leader with more than 700 orders. BYD’s ATTO 3, which until November last year had been a sure-fire winner, has fallen back considerably, with the Chinese manufacturer’s most popular model now having just turned over 550 orders.

All but one of those crossing the 250 mark are from the above mentioned manufacturers.
Apart from those already mentioned, only Volvo’s EX30 has squeezed in between the Tesla Model 3 and BYD’s Seal and Dolphin.

A good third of the 6,800 electric vehicles claimed to date in the corporate e-car program are from the two leading giants.

The tender has given a significant boost to the domestic market for clean and quiet vehicles, said the Ministry of Energy.
Last year, more than ever before, 22,000 clean vehicles were put into service in Hungary.
Last month, the monthly record for clean electric car registrations was also broken. The fleet of the most environmentally friendly (all-electric) vehicles rose to over 75,000 units in March, the Ministry noted.
Fact
Since February last year, Hungarian companies can apply for non-refundable state subsidies for the purchase of pure electric cars, vans or minibuses. The tender budget is HUF 30 billion (EUR 75.5 million). The program, encouraging the use of green energy, can provide between HUF 2.8 million (EUR 7,000) and HUF 4 million (EUR 10,000) for the purchase of a vehicle, depending on the battery capacity, and up to HUF 64 million (EUR 160,000) for a single company. Companies have until the end of March to apply for a subsidy
