CATL Launches Major Recruitment Campaign as Factory Nears Trial Production

The Chinese battery manufacturer CATL has launched another recruitment campaign in Debrecen (eastern Hungary) and the surrounding area, offering hundreds of new jobs. The company’s goal is to employ as many local people and residents of surrounding communities as possible in production, manufacturing, quality assurance, and logistics positions, the company said in a statement.

The statement recalled that CATL, the world leader in the manufacture of batteries for electric vehicles and the international market leader in technological innovations based on renewable energy sources, is building its second European battery factory in Debrecen at a cost of around HUF 3,000 billion (EUR 7.7 billion).

The investment and Debrecen’s economy will reach a significant milestone at the end of the year: according to plans, trial production will start at the cell factory, while the module assembly hall will be expanded with a new production line.

To this end, the current workforce of more than 800 will be increased to 1,400 in the coming months,

they wrote.

This marks the fourth large-scale recruitment campaign for the Debrecen battery factory in the region. The campaign is primarily aimed at people living in Debrecen and within a 60-kilometer radius of the city, with a particular focus on those who would like to find employment in the fields of production, manufacturing, quality assurance, or logistics. The company welcomes both graduates and skilled applicants, regardless of age or gender, they said.

In addition to Hungarian employees, CATL Debrecen currently employs Chinese experts and people of other nationalities to support its initial operations.

In the near future, additional Chinese employees will temporarily arrive from the parent company to familiarize locals with CATL’s unique, innovative technology, but the company’s strategy is based on involving the local workforce,

they explained.

The statement highlighted that CATL has been building its presence in the region since the fall of 2022. Since 2023, it has organized three recruitment campaigns, resulting in a steady increase in the number of local employees.

The company has established close cooperation with the Debrecen Vocational Training Center (DSzC): it regularly participates in local job fairs, its experts give lectures in classrooms, and they welcome student groups for factory tours.

The long-term goal of the partnership is to develop dual training programs, that will further strengthen the relationship between the local labor market and the company,

they wrote.

They added that, as part of the battery factory operator training program soon to be launched in collaboration with DSzC, 100 registered job seekers and external applicants will be given the opportunity to obtain professional qualifications over a period of three months, according to plant director Qin Liang.
