Charges Brought against Organizer of Pécs Pride for Unlawful Assembly

The Pécs District Prosecutor’s Office has brought charges and proposed a fine against a man from Pécs (southern Hungary) who organized the Pécs Pride parade and gathering last October despite a police ban and a Supreme Court ruling under the Child Protection Act, the Baranya County Chief Prosecutor’s Office announced.

The statement said that as the indictment has it, the man submitted a notification to the Pécs Police Headquarters in September 2025, stating that he intended to organize a march in Pécs on October 4, 2025, under the name Pécs Pride, with the participation of about a thousand people.

In accordance with the amended Child Protection Act, as the assembly authority, the police prohibited the rally from being held, and the man’s appeal to have the decision overturned was rejected by the Supreme Court in mid-September.

Nevertheless, the defendant continued to call for the rally to be held despite the ban through various media outlets, drawing people’s attention to the fact that the event would take place regardless of the ban, and ultimately the event was held, they wrote.

The Pécs District Prosecutor’s Office charged the man with violating the freedom of association and assembly and proposed that the court impose a fine on the defendant without a trial, according to the prosecutor’s office’s statement.
