Defending Champion Norbert Kiss Shines at European Truck Racing Championship

Six-time European champion Norbert Kiss, driving for Révész Racing, won the first race and finished third in the second on the final day of the fourth round of this year’s European Truck Racing Championship at the Nürburgring (in Nürnberg, Germany) on Sunday.
The 40-year-old defending champion also won the first race on Saturday, the first day of the weekend, starting from pole position, and then finished third in the second race with a reverse grid, starting from eighth place.
In Sunday morning’s qualifying session, Kiss proved unbeatable once again, finishing more than half a second ahead of second-placed Antonio Albacete of Spain.
In the first race of the day, the defending champion won with his usual confidence and further increased his lead in the overall standings over Germany’s Jochen Hahn, who finished second.
In Sunday’s final race, with a reverse grid, Kiss had to start from eighth place, and as on Saturday, he managed to climb up to third place, but from there he was unable to move any further forward, as Hahn defended all his attacks.
“Our first race was smooth, and the second, as usual, was eventful. One of our opponents had a water pipe burst, hence one of the corners was completely wet, and many people skidded there. But we were able to continue, the race was not stopped, and I attacked Jochen the whole time, but I could not overtake him because he defended well. Nevertheless, I am satisfied with this weekend and we are very happy,” Kiss told MTI.
After four rounds, halfway through this season, the Hungarian defending champion from Révész Racing leads Hahn by 49 points in the overall standings, while Stephanie Halm is in third place, 99 points behind.
The next round of the European Speed Truck Championship will be held in Most, Czech Republic, on the last weekend of August.
