Defense Forces Gear Up with Ultra-Modern Lynx Armored Vehicles

Another Lynx KF41 infantry fighting vehicle has arrived in Hódmezővásárhely (southern Hungary), further strengthening the Hungarian Defense Forces. Training required for operating the armored combat vehicle is continuously ongoing at the “Kinizsi Pál” 30th Armored Infantry Brigade, honvedelem.hu reports.

As previously reported by Hungary Today, the Defense Forces are to receive a total of 172 vehicles by 2030, that will be manufactured in Hungary as part of the joint venture with Rheinmetall. The first regular customer for the Lynx KF41 was the Hungarian Defense Forces, with the first combat vehicle delivered at the end of 2022.

Since then, new units have been arriving continuously, and the Hungarian forces are now also receiving vehicles from the factory in Zalaegerszeg (western Hungary).

The construction of the Rheinmetall Hungary Zrt. factory began in 2020. Production started in 2023, and the first “Hungarian” Lynx was rolled out a year later.

The most important piece of the Lynx’s remarkable main armament is the 30 mm automatic machine gun that can fire programmable ammunition with a range of up to 3,000 meters. Side protection is effective against the armor-piercing ammunition of heavy 14.5-millimeter machine guns and the fragments of 155-millimeter artillery shells that hit at a distance of more than 25 meters from the vehicle. In addition, the Lynx remains operational if a 10-kilogram mine explodes under its bottom armor.

Last week, two brand-new Leopard 2A7HU tanks developed specifically for Hungarian needs, as well as two new Wisent 2 armored support vehicles, arrived at the “Klapka György” 1st Armored Brigade in Tata.

The Leopard 2A7HU is a Hungarian-specific variant of the Leopard 2A7+, developed in collaboration with German manufacturers.

The Leopard 2 vehicles are one of the most advanced main battle tanks in the world.

It was developed for the Hungarian Defense Forces’ specific needs as part of Hungary’s military modernization program.

The Wisent 2 is a multi-purpose armored support vehicle, originally developed by the German company Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft (FFG).

It is based on the Leopard 2 tank chassis, making it highly mobile, durable, and compatible with other systems that use the Leopard 2 platform.

It is used to tow or recover damaged, stuck, or disabled armored vehicles (such as tanks) from the battlefield.
