Defense Forces’ Lynx Fleet Expands with Command Variant

Lynx KF-41 infantry fighting vehicle equipped with battalion command configuration have arrived at the Hungarian Defense Forces’ “Kinizsi Pál” 30th Armored Infantry Brigade, further enhancing the capabilities of the Forces.

The military equipment, with its special interior design, was handed over at the Hajmáskér railway station (western Hungary) in order to integrate it into the Adaptive Hussars 2025 exercise planned in advance and organized within the NATO framework, the brigade announced on its social media page.

As previously reported by Hungary Today, a total of 46 Lynx vehicles are scheduled for delivery by the end of 2025.

In addition, 172 more vehicles will be delivered by 2030, which will be produced locally in Hungary as part of a joint venture with Germany’s Rheinmetall.

The first regular customer for the Lynx KF41 was the Hungarian Defense Forces, with the first combat vehicle delivered at the end of 2022. Since then, new units have been arriving continuously, and the Hungarian forces are now also receiving vehicles from the factory in Zalaegerszeg (western Hungary).

The construction of the Rheinmetall Hungary Zrt. factory began in 2020. Production started in 2023, and the first “Hungarian” Lynx was rolled out a year later.

The most important piece of the Lynx KF-41’s remarkable main armament is the 30 mm automatic machine gun that can fire programmable ammunition with a range of up to 3,000 meters. Side protection is effective against the armor-piercing ammunition of heavy 14.5 mm machine guns and the fragments of 155 mm artillery shells that hit at a distance of more than 25 meters from the vehicle. In addition, the Lynx would remain operational if a 10-kilogram mine were to explode under its bottom armor.

The variant that has just arrived to the Defense Forces is purpose-built for battlefield command and control. It is a specialized configuration of the modular Lynx platform, designed to provide mobile command and control capabilities in frontline environments. Like all Lynx variants, it is built on a common drive module with a flexible mission module, allowing it to be quickly adapted for coordinated operations.
