Delicacy Treasure Hunt at Lake Balaton Marks American Ice Cream Day

One thousand ice cream coupons have been hidden around Lake Balaton starting from July 20th to celebrate American Ice Cream Day. The aim of the campaign is to draw attention to the diversity and quality of ice cream at Lake Balaton, says the organizer, the Balaton Tourism Association.
The aim of the initiative, which will run throughout the summer, is to promote local artisan ice cream makers in a playful way and make eating the delicacy a real summer experience in the region, they wrote.
As part of the campaign, ice cream scoops have been hidden in the form of coupons at popular locations around Lake Balaton, including beaches, promenades, and lookout points.
Lucky finders will receive free ice cream at confectioneries participating in this year’s Ice Cream of Balaton competition. Families can search for coupons from Veszprém through Balatonfüred and all the way to Balatongyörök.
Captain Füred, a fairy-tale character from Lake Balaton, is also participating in the campaign, promoting the importance of reading: ice cream coupons are packaged in storybooks related to travel and family ice cream eating outings.
Apart from that, the announcement also recounts how the popular delicacy became a symbol of American culture. Ice Cream Day was declared an official holiday in 1984, by U.S. President Ronald Reagan to recognize the importance of ice cream in American culture and economy. As stated by the decree, July is “National Ice Cream Month,” and the third Sunday of the month (July 20 this year) is “National Ice Cream Day,” when ice cream manufacturers, pastry shops, and fast food restaurants across the country celebrate with various promotions, free tastings, and programs.
As they wrote, Ronald Reagan’s favorite ice cream flavor was vanilla, hence most of the coupons for the Balaton “treasure hunt” will be valid for this one, but many other flavors will also be available in the promotion.
