Dominik Szoboszlai Shines with His First Premier League Goal of the Season
Dominik Szoboszlai scored his first Premier League goal of the 2024-2025 season in a thrilling 3-2 win over Southampton. The Hungarian midfielder delivered a stunning shot off his weak foot, earning praise as one of the standout players alongside Mohamed Salah, reports Index.
Szoboszlai’s stats were also remarkable: 89% passing accuracy, three key passes, and a goal that left little space between the ball and the post.
He received high marks across English newspapers for his performance. Fotmob.com rated him 8.6, second highest after Mohamed Salah. Liverpool.com gave him 7, noting his pressing and key assist. Thisisanfield.com highlighted his first-half danger and goal, while Liverpoolecho.co.uk praised his energy, pressing, and fine goal in the win over Southampton.
Reflecting on his performance, Szoboszlai explained, “we knew we could make them make mistakes, and we did our best to do that. Our pressing worked well, and that is how we got the goal.” His impact was not just limited to the goal, as he played a crucial role in the team’s pressing and created multiple chances. His excellent fieldwork could not have been matched by a better response to the criticisms from the British press than a goal.
The team’s collective effort was also key to the win. Despite Southampton’s quick goals in the second half, Liverpool remained focused and fought back with determination. Szoboszlai said,
the most important thing was our reaction… we did not give up and took the three points.”
Looking ahead, Szoboszlai expressed optimism for the future. “It is great to be where we are at the moment, but it will not be easy,” he said, referring to their upcoming match against Manchester City. He also commented on Mohamed Salah’s stellar performance, saying, “everyone knows what a great performer Mohamed is, and I hope we can play football together for a long time.”
