During his first visit to Washington this year, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Levente Magyar spent the day discussing energy issues in Washington, as this is currently the central topic in the booming Hungarian-American relations.
“We are purchasing increasing amounts of various energy sources from the U.S., and Hungary’s major nuclear development cycle, the next one, which we are launching in parallel with Paks 2, is based on American technology in terms of both production and the purchase and storage of nuclear fuel,” he stated.
He also pointed out that the United States has allowed MOL to enter the regional energy competition by purchasing the Russian stake in the Serbian oil company NIS, which is being sold as a result of U.S. sanctions.
Within the framework of U.S.-Russian-Serbian-Hungarian cooperation, MOL and thus Hungary can gain access to this huge strategic opportunity to become a dominant player in the Serbian energy market, following a series of other countries,”
he emphasized.
Levente Magyar had the opportunity to discuss bilateral relations with several ministers. “I attended the premiere of the film Melania, which is about the life of the U.S. president’s wife, Melania Trump, and half of the government was there, therefore I was able to talk briefly with the Health Minister, the Finance Minister, and Mr. Steve Witkoff, who is President Donald Trump’s special envoy for peace issues in both the Middle East and Eastern Europe,” he said.
And when I asked him when there would finally be peace in Eastern Europe and Ukraine, he gave a very optimistic assessment of the situation, thus we too can be optimistic and hopeful that peace will come to Ukraine and our region as soon as possible,”
he added.
The State Secretary also said that on Friday afternoon, he discussed at the U.S. State Department what high-level visits would take place in the coming period to further strengthen the already excellent relations.
