EU Migration Funds Used to Influence Member State Policies, Says Sovereignty Office

The Sovereignty Protection Office’s new report draws attention to the fact that pressure groups are using EU funds from migration fund projects to impose the European Commission’s pro-migration policy on member states.
By excluding member states from the decision-making process, the Commission is able to allocate these funds according to its own political objectives. In the case of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund, member states have no influence over the fund, the selection process is not transparent, and the experts involved are not known.
Numerous pressure groups are supported from these funds, including the Hungarian Helsinki Committee, Menedék – Migránsokat Segítő Egyesület (Hungarian Association for Migrants) and the Szubjektív Értékek Alapítvány (Subjective Values Foundation) in Hungary, the office reported.
The network-like operation is indicated by the fact that the majority of Hungarian beneficiaries also receive significant amounts from the George Soros Open Society Foundation.
The Sovereignty Protection Office believes that pressure groups use their projects to support the arrival of immigrants through migration management and to present the process in a positive light to society, thereby diverting the migration policy of member states. Strategic litigation by pressure groups plays a key role in this, with the aim of giving EU law primacy over member state legislation on migration issues. This creeping transfer of powers poses a serious risk to sovereignty in relation to migration issues. It could also weaken social cohesion in Hungary and does not serve the interests of citizens, but merely the political and economic goals of progressive pressure networks.
