Festival Blends Music, Sport, and Tradition along the Shores of Lake Tisza

A weekend of music, culture, sport, and nature awaits visitors as the Festival of Hungarian Lakes kicks off this Friday at Lake Tisza.
The three-day celebration will span two key locations — Tiszafüred and Kisköre (towns by Lake Tisza in northeast Hungary) — offering a wide array of programs including a gala concert, lakeside cycling tour, artisan fair, live performances, and family-friendly activities.
The event opens Friday evening with a gala concert in Tiszafüred’s main square (Fő tér), featuring Erika Miklósa, acclaimed Kossuth and Liszt Prize-winning soprano, performing alongside students of the Quintessence Master School, in a show directed by Péter Novák. For the first time, admission to the gala is free of charge.
On Saturday, visitors can take part in a 65-kilometer cycling adventure encircling Lake Tisza, with mini-concerts held at each of the eight lakeside towns along the route.
Tickets for the cycling tour can be purchased via jegy.hu.
The festival reaches its peak on Sunday in Kisköre, where the Fish Ladder of Kisköre and the nearby Lépcső Bistro will be transformed into a lively summer festival village. The waterfront will host a variety of culinary stalls, craft markets, horse-drawn carriage rides, dog shows, and fishing-themed programs.
A unique feature of this year’s event is a canoe slalom demonstration by the Hungarian Canoe Federation, held on the Kisköre Fish Stairs, often referred to as “nature’s promenade.”
Visitors will also have the opportunity to try rafting free of charge on the whitewater section of the fish ladder.
Organizers emphasize that Sunday’s family day events are entirely free of charge, aiming to create an inclusive, open-air cultural experience in harmony with nature.
