Fuel prices rose again on Thursday, this being the fourth increase in January alone. With petrol stations introducing individual tariffs, motorists can see a price difference of more than 50 forints (0.12 euros) per liter at stations.
The following changes were introduced in domestic wholesale fuel prices: petrol now costs 4 forints (0.009 euros) more, while the price of diesel will not change this time, fuel information website Holtankoljak wrote. The average prices on Wednesday were as follows: 95-octane petrol: 631 forints (1.52 euros) per liter, diesel: 650 forints (1.57 euros) per liter. In general, fuel is more expensive along motorways and expressways, and cheaper in the cities.

On January 1, the excise tax increase brought an almost 8 forint (0.019 euros) increase in the price of both types of fuel per liter, while on Saturday the price was increased by 2 forints (0.004 euros) for each. On Tuesday, the price of fuel went up again, and on Monday, the wholesale price of petrol went up by 3 forints (0.007 euros) gross, while the purchase price of diesel went up by 4 forints (0.009 euros) gross, reports Világgazdaság.
According to data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office, fuel prices in Hungary were favorable in December compared to the average prices in neighboring countries.
The monthly average price of diesel in Hungary was 633 forints (1.53 euros), 0.5 percent lower than the average in neighboring countries. The average price of petrol was 617 forints (1.49 euros), in line with the average in neighboring countries. According to the data, the average price at the end of last year was higher in the neighboring countries (Austria, Croatia, Serbia, and Slovakia) than in Hungary.
