Fuel Prices to Rise in the Coming Days

Wholesale fuel prices will rise on the national holiday on October 23, vaol.hu reported. Both gasoline and diesel will be 2 forints more expensive.

On Wednesday, the average price of 95 octane gasoline was 576 forints (cc 1.46 euros) per liter, while diesel was 579 forints (cc 1.47 euros) per liter at the pumps. Until now, fuel prices have been falling steadily in October, but retail prices are still much more favorable than last year, when gasoline cost an average of 607 forints (cc 1.54 euros) and diesel 600 forints (cc 1.52 euros) during the same period.

Recently, benzinkutarak.hu uncovered that MolPartner petrol stations offer currently the cheapest diesel fuel in the country:

  • 547 forints (cc 1.39 euros) per liter on Faller Jenő Road in Tata (Komárom-Esztergom)
  • 545 forints(cc 1.38 euros) on Fő Street in Akasztó (Bács-Kiskun).

In July 2024, the price of 95-octane petrol was 616 forints (cc 1.56 euros) in Hungary, which was 10 forints or 1.7% higher than the regional average. In neighboring countries, the average price was 623 forints (cc 1.58 euros), the Hungarian Central Statistical Office reported.

In the first half of this year, fuel consumption in Hungary increased by 0.5 percent compared to the same period last year, the Hungarian Petroleum Association (MÁSZ) reported.

A total of 1.88 billion liters of fuel were consumed during the six months, of which 744 million liters were gasoline and 1.13 billion liters were diesel. Demand for premium fuels rose significantly: consumption of premium gasoline increased by 4.7 percent, while premium diesel consumption rose by 11.6 percent. In contrast, sales of 95 octane gasoline fell by 0.5 percent, and non-premium diesel sales fell by 0.4 percent. MÁSZ member companies currently operate 1,060 filling stations out of the country’s 2,037 gas stations and sell a significant portion of total retail sales, approximately 75 percent of gasoline and 66 percent of diesel fuel.
