Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced on Wednesday that he is traveling to Subotica (Szabadka) to commemorate István Pásztor (leading figure of the Hungarian minority in Vojvodina) together with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and the Hungarian community of Vojvodina. He emphasized that the event not only honors a respected community leader but also demonstrates the strategic alliance between Hungary and Serbia.

He added that this also means that Hungary and Serbia can count on each other amid the turmoil of European politics. In his words, “our Serbian partners have found themselves in a difficult situation due to the consequences of the sanctions policy.”

The Prime Minister said:

Serbia may experience what we have managed to avoid in Hungary: the largest oil refinery may have to be shut down, and there is a threat of supply difficulties and even fuel shortages.”

Viktor Orbán declared: “I will assure President Vučić that Hungary will do everything in its power to help Serbia with its fuel supply.”

“Serbia can count on Hungary to secure its energy supply, which is why MOL will increase its deliveries of crude oil and petroleum products to Serbia by 2.5 times in December, thus helping its neighboring country in its difficult situation,” announced Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, on Wednesday in Belgrade.

Following talks with Serbian Energy Minister Dubravka Dedovic, the minister emphasized that Hungary has always been able to count on Serbia to secure its energy supply, and therefore Serbia can naturally count on Hungary’s support now that it is facing challenges in this area.

He emphasized that Hungary will contribute with all available means to guaranteeing the neighboring country’s oil supply, and in this context, MOL is ready to further increase its deliveries to Serbia.
