“The revamped Hungarian vocational training system has been successful, ranking third in Europe,” said Balázs Hankó, Minister of Culture and Innovation, at a press conference in Sopron on Thursday following the Ask the Minister! forum series at the Sopron Vocational Training Center’s Iron and Electrical Engineering Technical School.
Balázs Hankó added that there are also areas, such as web development, system operation, and software development, in which Hungary provides the best training in Europe. He emphasized that the essence of the renewed Hungarian vocational training system is dual training.
As an example, he mentioned that in Sopron, 200 dual partners are participating in 47 professions across 19 sectors.
He said that the forum discussed the need to grant exemptions in exam results and complex professional competitions to those who excel in professional competitions. The issue of providing laptops was also discussed.
It is necessary to make progress in this area in the field of information technology,”
he said.
The minister said it was important to extend the Határtalanul (Without Borders) program to vocational training institutions and technical colleges.
He also mentioned that
the Sopron Vocational Training Center received 3.6 billion forints from the 96 billion forints budget of the 21st century vocational training institution development program, of which 1.4 billion forints was used for building energy efficiency improvements and the establishment of training workshops at the Iron and Electrical Engineering Technical College.
The developments were handed over on Thursday. Responding to a question, the minister said that currently six out of ten eighth-grade students choose vocational training, and in the Sopron area the ratio is 6.2 out of 10. The goal is that by 2030, seven or in some cases eight out of ten students will choose vocational training.
He recalled that
it was the successful Hungarian dual vocational training system that made it possible to create one million new jobs in Hungary in recent years.
He emphasized that the German-Swiss-Austrian type of vocational training system had been developed in Hungary, which had strengthened vocational training. Vocational training is now in a more difficult situation in Germany, and companies are coming to Hungary because “we are at the forefront of vocational training that provides both traditional and new technologies.” The success of young people is the success of the nation, he continued.
He emphasized that this success was due not only to the revamped vocational training system, but also to the revamped higher education system, with 12 Hungarian universities ranked among the top five percent in the world. He said that the personal income tax exemption for people under the age of 25, which 300,000 people can benefit from this year, contributes to the financial security of young people. This includes worker loans, which 40,000 young people have already taken advantage of, as well as the Home (Otthon) Start program, which has 22,000 approved and confirmed loan applications.
Minister Balázs Hankó added that, in addition to these, there are 251 other youth support programs, ranging from support for the KRESZ exam to language exam support and county passes.
