Government Launches National Petition Campaigning Against Funding for Ukraine

“We will not pay for the Russian-Ukrainian war, we will not pay for the functioning of the Ukrainian state, and we will not pay higher utility bills because of the war!” reads the government’s social media page regarding the upcoming National Petition.

“The Hungarian government is launching a National Petition to send a message to Brussels:

We will not pay!”

the government announced on its Facebook page.

Hirado.hu also reported that PM Viktor Orbán had already presented the questions of the National Petition at an anti-war rally in Kaposvár (southwestern Hungary), in which the following three things can be rejected:

  • the financing of the Russian-Ukrainian war
  • ten years of support for Ukraine,
  • and the resulting increase in utility prices.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán emphasized that

we must say no to further financing of the Russian-Ukrainian war, to the Hungarians paying for the functioning of the Ukrainian state for the next ten years, and to the increase in utility prices due to the war.

The Prime Minister stressed that great national unity will be needed in the coming years to keep our country out of the war. “I will be where I need to be, and I will hold up a flag under which people can gather, and under which gathering always means pride, but a good state leader alone is not enough. Only with complete national unity can we stay out of the war,” the Prime Minister pointed out.
