Students of the Eötvös József Elementary School in Bodrogkeresztúr (northeastern Hungary) stood on the top step of the podium at one of the world’s most prestigious technology competitions, the international finals of the FIRST® LEGO® League 2024/2025, surpassing over six thousand teams worldwide, the High-Tech School Program created by the Mészáros Group announced on Tuesday.
The Hungarian student team, the Keresztúr Ninjagos, is no stranger to the world of national robotics competitions. They have already proven themselves in the Hungarian finals, not only through their technical skills but also with their team spirit.
They received a Motivation Award, recognizing their positive attitude and inspiring collaboration.
This momentum helped them qualify for the international finals and took them all the way to Hong Kong, where, among the world’s top 415 teams, they were the best in their category — a first in the history of Hungarian competitors.
The statement emphasized that behind this success lies years of persistent work, conscious pedagogical support, and a forward-looking educational program, the High-Tech School. Operating in several schools across the country since 2021, the program aims to make digital technology not just a spectacle but a real learning tool in everyday education.
The Bodrogkeresztúr school was among the first to join the High-Tech School initiative established by the Mészáros Group, and for over four years now, they have had a dedicated room equipped not only with LEGO robots, 3D printers, laser cutters, and micro:bit devices but also with methodological support for teachers. Educators learn through six-month training sessions how to integrate these tools to develop independent thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
The FIRST LEGO League is not just a robotics competition but a complex STEM-focused (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) challenge that demands engineering design, programming, teamwork, and social responsibility.
The fact that a Hungarian team achieved such a result praises not only the exceptional talent of their students but also the professional dedication of their teachers and mentors.
This year’s competition theme, SUBMERGED, encouraged students to leave the land and dive beneath the sea, exploring the different zones of the ocean. Through practical design, research, and discovery, they learn about marine ecology applications as well as scientific and technological approaches.
Regarding the Hungarian team’s success, the statement pointed out that this achievement is not only a huge victory but also a milestone in Hungarian digital education and talent development. For participating students, it is a life-changing experience and a serious boost in career choice — whether in engineering, IT, or teaching, they added.
The success of the Keresztúr Ninjagos clearly shows that with consistent work, dedicated educators, and the development of future skills, even small schools can achieve international success, the statement concluded.
