Hungarian Soldiers Are To Be Sent On An Iraq Mission

The government has decided on the Hungarian Armed Forces’ mission in Iraq, and the military contingent may remain in the Republic of Iraq until the end of 2026. The aim of the decision is to participate in the international coalition in the fight against the Islamic State, to prevent human rights violations, and to reduce illegal migration pressure.

The announcement confirms that the mission will be extended until the end of 2026, and the contingent may remain in Iraq until December 31, reported Index news portal.

  • Hungary is a committed member of the international coalition against the terrorist organization known as the Islamic State.
  • To help prevent human rights violations committed by the terrorist organization, in particular genocide and other crimes against humanity committed against Christians and other minorities living in Iraq. Furthermore, to reduce illegal migration pressure.

The military contingent may be stationed in the Republic of Iraq until December 31, with a maximum of 20 personnel, or 40 during the rotation period, equipped with the necessary technical equipment, weapons, and supplies. It was announced that their tasks include partnership building, military assistance, advising, and escorting troops.
