61 percent of Hungarian voters and nearly 40 percent of Tisza Party (opposition) voters do not think there is a need for early parliamentary elections in Hungary, and the number of those who want them has even decreased compared to spring 2024, Hungarian think-tank Nézőpont Institute reported based on their latest opinion poll.
The poll, conducted in the second week of January, shows that a significant majority of voters do not agree with the demands of Tisza Party President Péter Magyar in his New Year’s speech, namely the calling of early parliamentary elections.
Sixty-one percent of active voters say we should wait for the regular elections due in 2026, while only one-third (33 percent) say early elections should be called.
According to the Nézőpont Institute, it is noteworthy that the proportion of those who agree with the party president’s demand has even decreased compared to April last year.
The survey also reveals that four out of ten Tisza voters do not support Péter Magyar’s demand, nearly a third (32 percent) think we should wait for the 2026 elections, 7 percent could not or would not answer the question and only 61 percent back the party president’s initiative.

Péter Magyar, former husband of former Justice Minister Judit Varga, founded the Tisza Party in 2024. It soon became very popular among Hungarians as an opposition party, as was shown by the results of the European Parliamentary elections last year. In his New Year’s speech, party president Péter Magyar called for early elections in Hungary, saying that the Fidesz government had 15 years to put the country back on track, but instead they stole it, reported Index.
Nézőpont Institute said in a statement that these figures suggest that 40 percent of Tisza voters do not believe that their party would win an early election, otherwise they would hardly oppose holding it. According to them, the polls on the alleged Tisza advantage do not seem to have fully convinced even Tisza voters.
