Hungary and Romania’s interests are fully aligned in the field of energy, and the two countries will therefore continue to work closely together in this area in the future, Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, wrote on Facebook on Saturday.

Following his first telephone conversation with the new Romanian Minister of Energy, Bogdan-Gruia Ivan, the minister reported that Europe has faced several energy crises in recent years, which is why cooperation with neighbors is becoming increasingly important.

“Hungary and Romania have always had good cooperation in the field of energy, and Romania is a key partner in ensuring a secure energy supply,” he emphasized.

We agreed that the two countries can be of great help to each other in this situation and that we can contribute greatly to guaranteeing each other’s energy security,”

he continued.

Péter Szijjártó emphasized that both Hungary and Romania rely heavily on nuclear energy, and they also agreed that they will always support each other’s efforts to ensure that nuclear energy is not subject to negative discrimination in the future.

“Nuclear energy is capable of guaranteeing a cheap, safe, and sustainable electricity supply for our country,” he stated.

He then recalled that the two countries had expanded the capacity of their natural gas interconnection, which will allow Hungary to receive a larger supply from the southeast.

The capacity of the Hungarian-Romanian electricity interconnection will also increase soon, which will make the electricity supply of the entire region more balanced,”

he stated.
