Hungary Backs U.S. Peace Efforts in Ukraine, Says Viktor Orbán

“Hungary supports the United States’ peace efforts in Ukraine”, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán emphasized at the press conference with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Viktor Orbán stated that the current U.S. President has done the most in international politics to bring peace to the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Everyone knows that if Donald Trump had been president of the United States, this war would never have broken out,”

he noted.

He added that if Donald Trump were not the U.S. President now, “we would have no chance of ending this war peacefully in the foreseeable future. So we express our respect and gratitude to the U.S. President for his efforts to achieve peace,” he said.

A golden age has dawned in relations between the United States and Hungary, the Prime Minister also stated on Monday at the joint press conference, following the signing of an agreement on nuclear cooperation between the two countries.

Viktor Orbán emphasized that relations between the two nations have never been at such a high-level, balanced, and guided by good intentions.

He recalled that since January last year, 17 American investment decisions have been made in Hungary, which is a record for the decade. Hungarians can once again travel to the United States without a visa, he said, thanking U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio for this.

He emphasized that Hungary had been invited to join the newly formed Board of Peace, which will be established this week in Washington, adding that he would represent Hungary.

In addition, key agreements were signed in the field of energy, covering oil, gas, and nuclear energy.

“These agreements, together with the exception granted to Hungary, which allows the use of Russian gas and oil in Hungary, will contribute to ensuring that Hungary’s energy supply remains secure and that we are able to provide households and industry with extremely cheap energy by international standards,” said Viktor Orbán.
