HBPO Professional Services Kft. has established a global service center for research and development in Győr (northwestern Hungary), which clearly demonstrates the success of the Hungarian economy’s shift to a new dimension, said Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, on Thursday in Győr.
At the handover of HBPO Professional Services Kft.’s latest investment, the minister said that the German-French company had established a global service center for research and development worth HUF 1.5 billion (EUR 3.9 million; EUR 1 = HUF 389), for which the government provided HUF 440 million in support, helping to create 58 new jobs.
He explained that the company is a good example of how successful manufacturing activities can be followed by the establishment of service and research and development activities in Hungary, thereby bringing about a shift in the economy and increasing added value and technological standards even in extremely difficult circumstances.
“In recent years, we have worked hard to attract as many companies as possible to bring their global corporate headquarters to Hungary, and I am pleased to share with you that Hungary has now become the absolute leader in Central Europe for these global corporate service centers. In six years, since 2020, we have doubled the number of service centers operating in Hungary and the number of people working there,” he said.
Today, there are 245 global corporate service centers operating in Hungary, employing a total of 120,000 people, more than 80 percent of whom have higher education degrees, with an average age of under 35, and there are service centers that provide services in forty languages,”
he continued.
He then pointed out that these centers perform increasingly complex functions and significantly help young graduates who speak foreign languages to stay in the country.
He also mentioned that, in addition to Budapest, such service centers are now being established in increasing numbers in rural university towns.
In Debrecen, the number of people working in service centers has exceeded 5,000, while in Szeged (southern Hungary) there are more than 1,600, and in Miskolc (northern Hungary) and Pécs (southern Hungary) there are 1,400 working in such service centers.
Péter Szijjártó touched on the crises of the past decade and a half and the serious uncertainty accompanying the emergence of a new world order, emphasizing that Hungary has achieved real economic feats in the meantime, in which, in his words, Hungarian-owned large companies, which have grown significantly stronger today, have played a key role.
“And I think that these results, which we have managed to achieve together, the one million new jobs, the investments, the developments, the lowest taxes in Europe, the reduction in utility costs, the 13th and 14th month pensions, the family support, all of these could easily be jeopardized, all of these could become fragile if we do not properly address the global challenges that affect us,” he said.
“And you see that when we talk about wars, we are no longer just talking about armed conflicts, but also about the total uncertainty of global energy supplies. We must have a very important national sovereign goal to stay out of these wars, whether they are armed conflicts or energy wars,” he emphasized.
