Hungary Will Not Host Migrant Camps

The Ministry of the Interior’s Secretary of State, Bence Rétvári, reaffirmed on Facebook that there will be no migrant camp in Hungary as long as the Fidesz-KDNP coalition remains in power.

He announced that Hungary has incurred the gigantic fine of EUR 200M for refusing to comply with the European Union’s migration pact.

Today, we have received another fine of EUR 1 million because we are not willing to submit to the EU’s migration pact. We refuse to accept illegal migrants en masse in migrant camps at our borders,” he stated.

Bence Rétvári emphasized that Hungary opposes the idea of conducting parallel procedures for migrants and the EU’s quota system for distributing migrants. He asserted that Hungary’s refusal to implement the migration pact has led to these substantial fines, describing them as “gigantic, unjust, and disproportionate.”

The Secretary of State reiterated, “this is why Hungary will never have such a camp,” underscoring the government’s commitment to protecting the borders. He expressed Hungary’s desire to defend its sovereignty without resettling migrants in masses.

He also criticized European leaders, specifically referencing Manfred Weber of the European People’s Party, saying, “Manfred Weber… wants migrants and wants to build migrant camps.”

Mr. Rétvári concluded that Hungary will transport migrants to Brussels instead, maintaining that the government has successfully safeguarded its borders for the past nine years, without allowing illegal migrants to enter or establishing camps.
