Integration and Radicalization: No Illegal Migration, No Security Problems

Hungary is a safe country today because we resisted illegal migration and thus prevented the integration and radicalization problems that are already causing serious tensions in Western Europe wrote János Bóka, Minister for European Affairs, on Facebook following Tuesday’s Vienna Forum, where he discussed the fight against Islamic radicalism with participating politicians.

On Tuesday, the minister discussed the fight against Islamic radicalism with Claudia Plakolm, Austria’s Minister for Europe, Integration and Family, Sevi Voloudaki, Greece’s Deputy Minister for Migration and Asylum, and Elena Shekerletova, Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. The meeting took place within the framework of the Vienna Forum, where participants discussed the challenges posed by extremist political movements, radicalism, anti-Semitism, and political Islam.

János Bóka emphasized that

one of the greatest achievements of the European Union is the internal market and the Schengen area without border controls.

“But just as every coin has two sides, free movement within the EU also carries risks. Hungary is a safe country today because we resisted illegal migration and thus prevented the integration and radicalization problems that are already causing serious tensions in Western Europe,” the minister wrote.

He added that if other member states face security threats, the impact will sooner or later reach us as well. The rise of extremism, radicalization, and political Islam, especially in Western European societies undergoing transformation as a result of mass migration, is a challenge that we must address jointly at the European level.

This is the only way we can preserve Hungary’s peace and security in the long term,”

said János Bóka.

The minister also told MTI that further concrete steps towards closer cooperation had been taken at the high-level meeting of the Vienna Forum. They agreed to prepare a joint European initiative to combat online hate speech and are working on specific proposals to be presented at the next EU Affairs Council meeting.
