Latest Data Shows Outstanding Growth in Tourism


The popularity of Hungary among domestic and international travelers continues to grow unabated, the Ministry for National Economy commented on Thursday on the latest tourism data.

The most recent data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) shows that the total number of guests increased by 7.9% in November 2025, while the number of overnight stays in tourist accommodations rose by 5.8%.

Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of guests increased by 6.0% and overnight stays by 3.7% compared with November 2024.

72% of guests stayed in commercial accommodation establishments, where their number rose by 6.8% year-on-year. In private and other types of accommodation, 11% more guests were registered than a year earlier.

The number of foreign guests increased by 15% compared with the same month of the previous year, while the number of overnight stays rose by 12%. On a seasonally adjusted basis, the number of foreign guests increased by 13%, and their overnight stays by 9.5% compared with November 2024.

The number of foreign guests increased year-on-year in all tourism regions, most strongly in the Budapest metropolitan area and the Mátra–Bükk region (by 28% and 21%, respectively).

In Budapest, the number of foreign guests in tourist accommodations was 17% higher, while at Lake Balaton it was up by 14%.

Based on data provided by the KSH, the gross revenues of tourist accommodation providers totaled 86 billion forints (223 million euros), representing a 9.3% increase compared with the previous year.

In a statement on the latest figures, the Ministry emphasized that the government aims to further enhance the tourism appeal of the country. To this end, it has initiated development projects worth over 1,000 billion forints (2.6 billion euros) around Liszt Ferenc International Airport, while at the same time strengthening the competitiveness of the smallest tourism service providers through loans with an exceptionally favorable interest rate of 2.5% via the Kisfaludy Tourism Credit Center.

Tourism remains one of Hungary’s most important economic drivers this year as well, contributing over 13% to GDP and providing livelihoods for nearly 400,000 families,”

the statement said. With the government’s new measures, the strengthening of the competitiveness of the tourism sector and the enhancement of Hungary’s international attractiveness will continue, the Ministry concluded.
