Legendary Dallas’ Bobby Ewing Visits MOL Headquarters
Patrick Duffy in 2022.
Hundreds of millions of people around the world, and millions in Hungary were fans of the popular series Dallas. Now, MOL filmed a video with the iconic protagonist of one of the TV series in Budapest. In the commercial, Patrick Duffy, the actor playing Bobby Ewing, the good guy in the Dallas series about the Texas oil tycoon family, reacts to an emblematic 1993 MOL commercial featuring Larry Hagman, the actor who played his brother in the series, writes Magyar Nemzet.
The Dallas series, originally launched in 1978 and broadcast in Hungary from 1990, was largely based on the contrasting personalities of the two brothers, and its characters continue to attract interest in every country where the series is televised. “Bobby Ewing, aka Patrick Duffy, stands out even in this field: the passing years and grey hairs have not changed his charisma as an actor,” stressed the MOL statement.
The company recalled that thirty years ago, MOL’s emblematic commercial focused on the character of Jockey. Today’s sequel, which is emphatically non-commercial and approaches the three-decade-old story from a nostalgic and humorous angle, recalls the rivalry between the two, with a reference to their past:
Bobby does not believe Jockey’s advertisement that Hungarian oil is excellent, but now he is in Budapest, at the region’s largest oil company, to see for himself.
Although the ad is Hungarian to the core, the creators have paid attention to authentic details: for example, Bobby’s true-to-scale hat was sourced from Dallas, Texas.
The Hungarian voice of Patrick Duffy was again Zoltán Csankó, who dubbed him in Dallas. Patrick Duffy’s kind, cooperative personality and professionalism is well illustrated by the fact that he also adopted Hungarian lip-syncing to make the final result as authentic as possible.
The video, created and directed by Tamás Yvan Topolánszky, will be of interest not only to those who were first captivated by Dallas, but also to those of later generations who only know the actor through the stories of their parents or who followed his career in later films.
Patrick Duffy arrived in the country for the premiere of the romantic, button-football sports comedy Lepattanó (The Rebound), in which he plays a main character, giving MOL the opportunity to film together. The film, of which the Hungarian oil giant is one of the main sponsors, will be screened in cinemas nationwide from September 26.
