Majority of Europeans See EU Centralization as a Threat, Says New Survey

Based on a public opinion poll covering 27 countries commissioned by the Sovereignty Protection Office, the European population clearly views the European Union’s (EU) centralization efforts as a threat to sovereignty, while the Brussels-led empire’s vision is met with overwhelming rejection across the continent, the office told MTI on Thursday.

The Brussels political elite has been systematically seeking to weaken the sovereignty of member states for years by using various political and legal means in order to create a United States of Europe without nations.

Based on the research data, there is no doubt that the European Commission’s intentions do not meet the expectations of Europeans, and that the federalist imperial structure imposed by Brussels lacks a political base among the continent’s population, they added.

The research shows that the majority of respondents (51 percent) believe that the European Union’s centralization efforts pose a threat to national self-determination, and that 77 percent of citizens would prefer to live in a Europe based on cooperation between independent, equal nations rather than in a unified, nationless United States of Europe,

they wrote.

Hungarians’ commitment to national sovereignty is outstanding: a higher proportion of Hungarian respondents (79 percent) than the European average support the vision of a Europe based cooperation between independent nations, they wrote.

There is also widespread rejection of the practice of the European Commission exerting pressure on member states to implement its own globalist, progressive ideas through pseudo-civil society actors that are largely financed by EU funds and based in European countries.

Based on the survey data, two-thirds of respondents (66 percent) find it unacceptable for Brussels to interfere in the internal affairs of member states by using organizations that exert political pressure.

“In Hungary, we see a higher level of rejection on this issue than the European average (68 percent),” the statement said.
