Military vehicle and aircraft movements, as well as heightened noise levels, are expected across several parts of Hungary during the fourth week of the Adaptive Hussars 2025 (ADHU25) national defense exercise — the largest and most complex military operation of the Hungarian Defense Forces since the political transition — the Ministry of Defense (MoD) announced on Sunday via MTI.
The large-scale joint military and governmental exercise, launched on September 1 and organized within a NATO framework, will continue to impact road and air traffic due to troop relocations and equipment transfers. Increased activity is anticipated on highways, motorways, and in urban areas across most of the country’s counties.
Between September 22 and 28, Hungarian Defense Forces units will conduct combat-like maneuvers between major cities. Military convoys composed of vehicles and combat equipment will, in some cases, be accompanied by military helicopters.
On September 22, convoys will travel a long route from Szolnok-Szandaszőlős (central Hungary) along roads 442, M44, 44, 54, M5, 52, 51, M8 (Pentele Bridge), M6, 62, M7, Route 8, and Route 83, concluding at the Pápa Air Base. Residents in the Pápa region (western Hungary) should also prepare for increased noise from both rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft.
The return movement along the same route is scheduled for September 26 under similar conditions.
Additionally, on September 22 between 06:00 and 12:00, the HDF vitéz Szurmay Sándor Budapest Garrison Brigade will conduct a military-policed equipment transfer from Budapest’s Maria Theresa Barracks, via the M1/M7 exit, M7 motorway, Route 8, to the Nullponti Training Ground in Hajmáskér (central Hungary).
Furthermore, on September 23, in the late afternoon, a convoy from a Turkish subunit — participating as part of NATO’s Forward Land Forces (FLF) Battlegroup — is expected to arrive in Hungary to join the ongoing exercise.
