Ministry for National Economy Gains Control of Air Navigation

From August 1, 2024, HungaroControl, the Hungarian air navigation service provider, will be under the indirect control of the Ministry for National Economy, with the task of ensuring a high level of aviation safety.

Accordingly, the main strategic objective of HungaroControl from a professional point of view is to create and maintain the safe and uninterrupted flow of air traffic.

HungaroControl’s priorities include significantly improving the quality of Hungarian air traffic, close cooperation with the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) and more effective representation of Hungarian interests.

Another priority task is to stabilize the significantly increased overflight traffic at a manageable level and to review and, if necessary, modify the future fee structure to this end.

In addition, HungaroControl is placing great emphasis on strengthening and further developing its professional and human resources activities, as well as on developing a strategic and professional partnership with Budapest Airport, which has recently become a majority state-owned company.

The efficient management of HungaroControl is essential for the optimal operation of the airport, needed for maintaining the satisfaction of the traveling public and boosting Hungarian tourism.

The smooth coordination of air traffic allows the maximum use of the airport’s capacity and provides the basis for further large-scale developments, which in the long term is essential for the development of tourism infrastructure and the country’s economic growth.
