The press release confirms that this was the fifth personal meeting between the two legislative leaders since 2012.
Kövér said that the Arab state had developed spectacularly in the ten years since his last visit to Saudi Arabia. He added that it is not only the country’s internal development that commands respect for Saudi Arabia, but also its role in the global economy and the moderate position that the Gulf kingdom has taken in its efforts to resolve international conflicts, such as the war between Ukraine and Russia, the situation in the Middle East – with particular regard to the fact that stability in the Middle East is a prerequisite for security in Europe.
In the current tense situation, we particularly appreciate Saudi Arabia’s moderate stance, said the Speaker, adding:
We greatly appreciate our cooperation with Saudi Arabia, based on mutual respect and trust and shared values, respect for traditions, protection of sovereignty, and respect for families.”
He emphasized that since the announcement of the policy of opening up to the East, political relations between the two countries have strengthened, which should also be capitalized on in the field of economic relations.
He said that the more developed the two countries are, the more opportunities there are for cooperation. He mentioned Hungarian companies looking for investment opportunities in Saudi Arabia as an example.
He considered last year’s fourth meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Committee in Riyadh and the Hungarian-Saudi Business Forum held on the sidelines of the meeting, which resulted in new forms of economic cooperation, to be a success. He cited the Hungarian-Saudi Arabian Digitalization Cluster as an example, aiming to foster bilateral business relations and utilize Hungarian digitalization know-how in the markets of the Gulf countries.
Kövér expressed his delight that the series of business forums is continuing, and that Saudi businesspeople were welcomed to Hungary in May this year, while a delegation from the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be visiting Riyadh in a few days’ time.
The Speaker of the National Assembly also said that Hungary is ready to further deepen its cooperation with Saudi Arabia in the fields of agriculture, water management, tourism and medical tourism, as well as energy – the natural gas and oil sectors, as well as nuclear and green energy.
The negotiating parties noted that the relationship between the legislatures of our countries has been exceptionally intense in recent years, and agreed that in addition to the contacts between the presidential and friendship committees, this should be supplemented in the future by the exchange of experiences between specialist committees and offices.
During his official visit to Riyadh, Kövér will be received by Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Governor of the Riyadh Region, and will hold talks with Deputy Foreign Minister Walid Abdulkarim al-Hiriji and Minister of Commerce Majid bin Abdullah al-Kasabi.
