A new government decree on the future of Lake Balaton is expected to be adopted this year: the scope of the Waterfront Plan has been increased by 16 square kilometers compared to the old legislation, revealed Világgazdaság.
The government’s draft decree for the future of the Balaton shoreline includes a ban on storing boats on the lakebed outside harbors, due to the dangers posed by illegally placed stakes and weights used for mooring. The coastal walkway is also marked on public piers, reports Hírbalaton.
The Waterfront Plan identifies vegetation other than classified reedbeds, mixed vegetation, both in the riverbed and on dry land. A significant change is that the land use in the draft plan can be slightly adjusted based on a geodetic survey in the local building regulations (LUD), which makes the plan more flexible.
Fact
The Waterfront Plan is a legislative proposal aimed at regulating the future use and protection of the shores of Lake Balaton. The primary objective of the plan is to establish guidelines for what developments and changes can be made along the lake’s shoreline, while taking into account environmental, landscape, and ecological considerations. The plan outlines protected areas, building regulations, the safeguarding of the lakeside strip, as well as the protection of the lakebed and surrounding vegetation.
The scope of the new Waterfront Plan has been increased by 16 square kilometers compared to the old regulations.
In other areas where the old regulations extended beyond railway tracks or main roads the new regulations have been reduced by 0.3 square kilometers. At least 30 meters from the regulatory shoreline of Lake Balaton must be preserved as undeveloped, both under the current and the new regulations. No new building can be placed here, and existing buildings can only be extended up to 100 square meters.
The Ministry of Construction and Transport hopes to adopt the Waterfront Plan in the second quarter of this year.
A public consultation on the environmental assessment of the legislation, which has been more than half a decade in the making, is underway and comments can be submitted at the E-epites website.
