New Train Links Budapest to Central European Capitals

From December, it will be possible to travel from Budapest to the Bavarian capital, Munich, on comfortable Polish EuroNight trains. The new train service is planned to connect the Polish-Ukrainian border with key Central European capitals such as Budapest and Bratislava, as well as Austria and southern Germany. The train service will travel through the most beautiful regions of Central Europe.

The Polish state railway company PKP is launching an innovative train service from Przemyśl, located on the Polish-Ukrainian border, to Munich on December 14. The trains will depart from the city’s railway station at 5:59 p.m.

On the Polish section, the train will pass through historic Polish cities such as Rzeszów, Krakow, and Katowice, finally arriving in Bohumín, Czech Republic (near the Czech-Polish border), on the Oder River.

Here, the train will be split in two. One half will arrive in Budapest via Bratislava and continue on to Munich. The other half will depart for Vienna, arriving in the Bavarian capital of Munich via Linz and Salzburg.

The arrival time is 10:24 a.m. on the day after departure. The entire journey will take approximately 16 hours.

The idea is to be able to travel to three Central European capitals without changing trains, while also stopping at the above-mentioned towns. According to TVP World, the Polish public media news magazine, the EuroNight Carpatica will stop at practically all major cities in the region except Prague.

According to Time Out, passengers will need to purchase a seat reservation for the train and will be able to sleep in a regular seat, a couchette (a small pull-out bed), or a regular-sized bed, depending on demand and budget. Some compartments will also offer shower facilities for passengers. Breakfast, hot drinks, and snacks will also be available for purchase. No information has been released yet about ticket prices for the train connecting the seven countries.
