The Obuda University, Stanford University and the National University of Singapore have launched a digital twin-based medical and laboratory robotics project under the HU-rizont research program, announced Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, Rector of Obuda University. He added that the Hungarian university is both the leader and the institutional center of the project consortium.
The Obuda University, with the support of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office, has officially launched its HU-rizont program in Singapore in the field of medical robotics, in collaboration with the Advanced Robotic Center of the National University of Singapore and the Stanford Robotics Center of Stanford University.
Through the project, the three universities will develop state-of-the-art robotic algorithms over the next three years to implement radically new concepts and unprecedented research directions in surgical robotics and laboratory automation.
“The international recognition of Obuda University and the fact that our invitation has been accepted by the leaders of two of the world’s top 10 universities is a great achievement,” said Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács. As he pointed out, robots are becoming capable of performing increasingly complex tasks, and artificial intelligence methods can significantly accelerate research.
However, despite the effectiveness of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in digital tasks, there are significant gaps in the application of AI in physical interactions requiring fine motor skills.
The MedLaBotX project aims to bridge this gap by developing new research methods in the field of deep neural computing and realistic multimodal simulation environments, the so-called digital twins.
All three universities will provide significant research resources to implement and run the project. This is evidenced by the commitment of top researchers and lab leaders from both NUS and Stanford University to the joint project. The Bejczy Antal iRobotics Center at the Obuda University will be the primary beneficiary of the project, aiming to establish a center of excellence in the field of medical and laboratory robotics, the embodiment of artificial intelligence, with international recognition within three years, emphasized Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács.
