One of Today’s Greatest Violinists to Perform with Concerto Budapest

Concerto Budapest will perform with Grammy Award-winning violinist Augustin Hadelich at its concerts in Budapest on January 17, and in Pécs on January 19.

In a statement, the organizer of the Pécs concert, Filharmónia Magyarország, wrote that during the evenings to be held in the Grand Hall of the Academy of Music, Budapest, and then at the Kodály Center in Pécs, Concerto Budapest will perform works that were defining for their composers:

In addition to Mendelssohn’s violin concerto, Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 3 in D major and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F minor will also be performed.

Mendelssohn’s work is one of the defining pieces of violin concerto literature, they wrote, highlighting that the soloist of Concerto Budapest will be Augustin Hadelich, a celebrated guest of the world’s greatest concert halls, born in Italy to German parents and now a U.S. citizen and Grammy Award winner.

Before and after the concerto, there will be a symphony conducted by András Keller, one by Schubert, who was barely 18 when he wrote it, and one by Tchaikovsky, who was 38 but already melancholic and gloomy at the time.

Schubert’s Symphony No. 3 exudes youthful cheerfulness and lightness, while the Russian composer’s Symphony No. 4 has been associated not only by posterity but also by the composer himself with the concept of fate and the weight of destiny bearing down on man. The announcement emphasized that this was the first symphony among Tchaikovsky’s symphonies in which he expressed his struggle with his own fate, drawing on his experience of a recent, hastily arranged and quickly dissolved marriage.
