Opera House Ends the Year with a Revenue of HUF 8 Billion


The Hungarian State Opera House bids farewell to 2025 with a record revenue of more than eight billion forints (20,9 million euros).

The Hungarian State Opera House’s own revenue in 2025 exceeded 8 billion forints (20,9 million euros), which is an absolute record not only in the history of the institution but also in the Hungarian cultural sphere as a whole.

The Opera House was able to significantly increase its own revenues (from ticket sales, season tickets, events, catering, rentals, building tours) even with a staff reduction of about 100 people through a few percent downsizing, workforce transfers, and the elimination of vacant or unfilled positions. enabling it to finance approximately one-third of its 2025 operating costs, amounting to approximately 25 billion forints (65 million euros).

In 2025, the Opera House presented 255 opera and 117 ballet performances, as well as 36 concerts, for a total of 398 large-scale and 10 chamber performances at its three venues, as well as 45 guest performances.

The theater’s repertoire included 46 opera and 10 ballet titles, including 6 opera and 1 ballet premieres. Nearly 300,000 tickets were sold for these performances at the Opera’s venues, and more than 40,000 people attended guest performances and tours.

During the year, the Opera House hosted about 300 events.

The Ybl Palace hosted 81,000 visitors on its building tours, which were conducted in seven languages and accompanied by small concerts.

The Nutcracker production, which was revamped in 2015, attracted a record audience of 44,000 and generated revenues of over 1 billion forints (2,6 million euros).
