The roar of modern jet engines broke the winter silence over the Bakony Mountains on Tuesday. For the first time, the Hungarian Special Operations Command’s paratrooper company demonstrated its capability using the new military transport aircraft, the Embraer KC-390 Millennium.
In a simulated combat scenario, the Hungarian armed forces proved that modernizing their fleet goes far beyond simply acquiring new equipment. The aim was to master complex infiltration scenarios under real conditions, honvedelem.hu reports.

The soldiers jumped in full combat gear from an extremely low altitude of just 400 meters.
This tactic is intended to minimize time in the air and avoid detection by enemy radar or incoming fire. The so-called “automatic jump procedure” (with static line) was used, allowing entire units to be deployed in rapid waves. This enables soldiers to regroup immediately on the ground and operate as an organized formation.

The 23.5-ton KC-390 Millennium is currently considered one of the most advanced military transport aircraft in the world.
A key factor in the success of the exercise was the computer-assisted CARP system (Computed Air Release Point).
This technology handles the complex calculations for the pilots. The system calculates in real time the altitude, ground speed, and wind conditions, and determines the exact millisecond for the “green light,” allowing soldiers or multi-ton loads to land precisely in the designated drop zone.

The exercise marks a turning point in the strategic capabilities of the Hungarian Defense Forces. With additional fuel tanks, the KC-390 can reach up to 8,500 kilometers. This extends the operational range of Hungarian special forces from purely regional missions to global deep operations.
